Sunday, September 10th was an amazing day at Pleasant Grove as the Holy Spirit intervened in a way not witnessed by our congregation in recent years. Nine new members united with the church family with four being baptized and two more to be baptized in the near future. Three others joined by Christian experience. Another member had joined the previous week during the revival services – making a total of ten new members!
 
Tears of all sorts rained down as the Spirit of the Lord reigned throughout. There was standing room only at the altar as people of all ages rededicated their lives and requested special prayers of deliverance. Seven people formallly rededicated their lives and countless others came for prayer.
 
We welcome all our new members and look forward to worshipping, praising, and serving with renewed hope, positive attitudes, and loyal dedication – all in the name of the Father and the Son and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. As our motto states, we truly do aspire to know more, grow more, see more, and be more in Christ. 



If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.

Our guest for this week is an anointed man of God. He is a learned theological scholar and in the secular arena, not to mention gifted by the Spirit.. His pastoral  journey has taken him far and wide as he has led congregations in Mississippi, Arkansas, Iowa, and most recently in Florida at Grace Community of Faith in Orlando.  Originally from Pope, Mississippi, he and his wife, Sister Suzette Shields Ware, now reside in Coffeeville. They are the parents of three daughters and the grandparents of one grandson.

Pastor Lee V. Matthews, Sr. (Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church), husband of our former member, Mrs. Katherine Mathews and uncle of our pastor, Pastor Mitchell Steen, passed away on Tuesday, November 4th.  Visitation will be held at  Eddie Robinson Funeral Chapel, 1196 South Mound Street * Grenada, MS  on Friday.  Homegoing Celebration Services will convene Saturday, November 8th at 11:00 a.m. at the Water Valley City Auditorium, 905 North Main Street * Water Valley, MS.

The 57th Annual National Day of Prayer will take place Thursday, -May 1, 2008. The theme for this year is "Prayer! America's Strength and Shield" and is based on the verse from Psalm 28:7 which states: "The Lord is my strength and shield; my heart trusts in Him and I am helped."

 This is a critical time to be in prayer for America. The biblical principles upon which our country was founded are coming under attack in every segment of society. Yet despite this troubling trend we can take heart in the knowledge that God hears and responds to the earnest cries of His people. In one of my favorite Psalms, 28:7, David makes this confident declaration: "The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped." What a comforting reminder that God is indeed the source of all power, guidance and protection.

It is with this in mind that we chose for our 2008 National Day of Prayer theme, "Prayer, America's Strength and Shield."

It is tremendously heartening to know that you are standing with us as we call this great nation to prayer. Thank you for devoting yourself to this cause and please know that we are remembering you before God's throne as we work together to spark a nationwide revival of prayer and repentance.

40th Anniversay of his Death
A Prophet without Honor
 
On April 4th we will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s death.  We are all purposed to live out what he fought for so diligently.  We have a national holiday named for him, but are we really embodying what he represented?
 
Was he a prophet?  Well, we know he was a dreamer.  He was a profound visionary, a pastor, and a preacher.  Dare we say that he also walked in the prophetic, and if we are not truly honoring his dream and working toward the manifestation of it --he is a prophet without honor.  The mature church should represent what Dr. King envisioned, what he prayed for, and what he lived.  As we grow, we should be expanding his dream with our own inspired by God.
 
Can we compare Dr. King to Moses?  In some respects, we can.  Even his last speech parallels.  He talks about going to the mountaintop and seeing the promise land.  Was he prophesying when he said, I may not get there with you, but we, as a people will get there?  We are in the 40 years now.  Think about it. A new interest has been raised in an entire generation that has never been proactive before.  A woman and a black man are the frontrunners in the presidential race.  People are dying off and the Joshuas and Calebs are coming forward. In order for this change to take place, the body of Chirst has to be in the lead.  We are the head and not the tail, but we have to enlarge our territory.  We cannot stay within the confines of the church.  The "Church" has to innfluence the world.
 
Dr. King once stated that his greatest influence was Jesus Christ.  Follow suit, let God lead you into action that will make our nation greater and give recognition to His prophet.

"Rejoice in the Lord always. And again I say rejoice!" (Philippians 4:4, NIV).

Did you know that you can rejoice always? In fact, as believers, we are commanded to rejoice. Rejoicing opens the door for victory in your life. When you rejoice and worship the Lord, you are making a declaration that your God is bigger than your problems! You are making a declaration that you trust Him! Now you may be thinking, “How can I rejoice if I don’t feel like rejoicing?” Well, that word “rejoice” in the original Greek is “chairo” and it is actually a verb, an action word. You can choose to rejoice with your words and with your actions, no matter what you may be feeling. You may have to do what David did in Psalm 103, and actually tell yourself, “Bless the Lord oh my soul and all that is within me.” When you make the choice to rejoice always, God will pour out His supernatural joy and strength upon you so you can live in victory in every area of your life today!

As a part of the growth process in the portion of God’s Kingdom located at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, we are initiating great opportunities to make a difference in worship at Pleasant Grove and in all aspects of our lives as well as those of others.

 We are seeking new ways to combat society’s destructive forces.  Concentrating on sin, we are also praying for the solutions to crime, disease, and poverty among other things.  As we grow in knowledge and spirit, we realize it is the duty of the Church, specifically Pleasant Grove, to develop strategies, programs, ministries and services to facilitate the improvement of our homes, our church, and our community.  With everyone’s diligence and support, we can expand and enhance our facilities and increase the positive impact of our ministry.

 

 

 

 

Our Vision 

Pleasant Grove strives to fulfill the divine commission in spreading the gospel—providing spiritual learning, praise, and service opportunities to all people regardless of their status in life or where they are positioned in their walk of faith.

As a church family we aspire to continue to grow spiritually and physically in order to accommodate our needs as well as those of the community.

 

 

Our Plan

Completing a building/renovation project  to include additional amenities, auxiliary areas, and dining and restroom conveniences, along with the reconstruction and maximization of current space, will not only enhance the appearance of our facilities and grounds, but foster an environment that is conducive to higher praise and better service to the Lord and mankind.
